Innovative commercial Coatings Solution
Nanokote Pty Ltd specialises in the
engineering, manufacturing and sales of specific nano coating materials
for glass, metals, plastics, concrete and textiles. Nanokote was set
established in 2005 as a marketing and distribution company within
Micronisers Pty Ltd but has since expanded into being a manufacturer in
its own right and is quickly developing a reputation as one of the very
few nanotechnology companies successfully commercialising products on a
global scale.
“Our globally patented commercial coatings
are all manufactured in Dandenong, Melbourne Australia and Dallas,
Texas USA,” informed Simon King, Nanokote’s Technical Director and CEO.
“We also have distribution partners in the US, EU, Singapore, Malaysia,
Thailand, and Vietnam.
Nanokote products with hydrophobic and oleophobic functions are available for many surfaces, including glass, metal, wood, plastic,
mineral undercoats, textiles and leather and ensure surfaces maintain
their clear and clean appearance longer and allow superior glass
visibility and presentation of other surfaces. The enhanced surfaces can
also be effortlessly cleaned with less and more environmentally
friendly cleaning products.
“Our latest innovation from our
Melbourne plant is PrimoGuard Texture, a new concrete spalling repair coating that can
be applied using all traditional methods: roller,” said Simon. “We’ve
been working with government road, rail, power and water authorities
globally for eight years supplying our standard PrimoGuard Flat which
was primarily developed for application on highly stressed concrete
surfaces for prevention of concrete spalling repair. PrimoGuard is an
organometallic coating, that is, it has both organic and inorganic
components. Compared with traditional coatings that are inherently
organic, such as polyurethane, acrylic, or styrene acrylic, our hybrid
coatings have some exceptional properties.”
PrimoGuard Texture is a modified
polysiloxane hybrid for the decorative protection of concrete.
PrimoGuard provides excellent protection from concrete cancer combined
with permanent anti-graffiti and easy to clean/self-cleaning
functionalities. It has outstanding resistance to corrosion, better
weatherability than aliphatic polyurethanes and acrylic paint technology
and is available in a range of profiles and colours. Normally only
requiring one and no more than two coats, PrimoGuard can be applied
directly to dry or damp concrete. This replaces typical competitor
systems of a standard four coat system, primer, two separate coats of
roll on acrylic 24 hours apart, followed seven days later by two pack
polyurethane anti-graffiti top coat.
“Typical competitor systems cannot offer
a warranty on textured surfaces due to the topography of the surface,”
added Simon. “ProGuard™ has a ten year warranty and is approved by the
German, Swiss, Australian and US Governments. It’s certified for
VicRoads Sec.685 and WA Main Roads for anti-graffiti. It also meets all
Green Star rating requirements with a low VOC content of 63g/litre.”
PrimoGuard Texture is suitable for a
wide variety of civil and community projects including hospitals, sports
stadiums, shopping centres, apartment buildings, aquatic centres and
car parks. It is being applied to the $1.2 billion Perth Children’s
Hospital currently under construction on the QEII Medical Centre site in
Nedlands and due to open to the public in late 2016.
Nanokotes R&D staff in Dandenong have been working hard to expand their coating range and a single coat for mild steel, meaning no priming is necessary, will be released early in 2016.
